Meet the team.

Founder and CEO of Investment Lab. Began his career in 2000 at Goldman Sachs as a derivatives trader in the Equities Division. After fifteen years there — including a leadership role across the Asia trading team — he moved inside one of Japan’s largest institutional investors as Managing Director, where he helped reform investment strategy and led the alternatives programme. He later joined the Management Committee as Senior Managing Director, and helped launch one of Japan’s largest private equity firms.

In 2020, he founded Investment Lab to channel his accumulated experience and knowledge toward solving real social challenges through the work of investing. At the firm he oversees overall business operations, leads risk management for the listed equity fund, and runs investments in resource circulation, HR-tech, and fintech in the VC business.

Joined Goldman Sachs Securities in 2005. Spent fifteen years in the Finance Division covering P&L and B/S monitoring, valuation, and new-trade due diligence across a wide range of financial products — including derivatives, private equity, and real estate. Moved in 2020 to a real-estate venture firm as CFO.

Joined Investment Lab in February 2022, drawn by the firm’s vision of applying financial expertise to support companies tackling real social challenges.

Began his career in 1997 at Yamaichi Securities in the Syndicate desk. Moved to HSBC Securities, and then to Goldman Sachs in 1999, where he worked in Prime Brokerage and on the Capital Markets underwriting team.

From 2005, joined the Tokyo office launch of a US-headquartered global equity hedge fund as Japan Representative. In 2014, co-founded a Japan-focused listed equity hedge fund in Singapore as Founding Partner and COO.

His career has been spent leading non-investment functions across alternative asset management firms. Joined Investment Lab in 2024.

Joined Astellas Pharma in 2011 as a new graduate, working primarily on small-molecule process development and regulatory affairs.

Moved to DBJ Capital in 2017 as a capitalist focused on biotech and healthcare. End-to-end venture investing across sourcing, diligence, portfolio management, and exit — serving as board director at five portfolio companies. Joined Investment Lab in 2025.

Joined Japan Post Bank in 2017 as a new graduate. Was involved in establishing and operating a proprietary investment desk employing equity-related hedge fund strategies — leading the planning and design of operational structure and driving automation through programming.

Joined Investment Lab in 2020. From the firm’s earliest days he has been involved in internal structure planning and in investment research across both listed and unlisted domains.

COO and head of Internal Controls. Began his career in 1999 at Nomura Securities as a financial consultant, and won a company-sponsored scholarship to study at a US business school. After his MBA, he spent five years at Nomura USA (New York) in Japanese Equity Sales, then moved in 2010 to a newly created Prime Brokerage unit as Head of Prime Finance Japan. In 2018, co-founded an independent asset management firm as Director and COO.

Joined Investment Lab in 2020 as a founding member, motivated by a desire to contribute to building a better society through investing.

Joined Lehman Brothers Securities in 2005 as a new graduate, working on listed-derivatives settlement, clearing, and client service. Following Nomura’s 2008 acquisition of Lehman’s business, spent approximately twelve years at Nomura Securities — leading client service for listed-derivatives electronic trading, and later for Japanese equities electronic trading.

Joined Investment Lab in 2021, driven by a desire to learn closer to the investment side of the business.

Joined Nikko Cordial Securities (now SMBC Nikko) in 2008 as a new graduate. Worked in retail sales to high-net-worth individuals and corporates, then moved to head-office roles supporting retail sales and corporate-foundation RFPs.

Moved to a domestic independent asset manager in 2017. Focused on alternative strategies — primarily private equity and private debt — selling to institutional investors, with corporate pension funds as the core client base.

Joined Investment Lab in 2021.

Admitted to the Japan bar in 2007. Member of a major Japanese law firm. From April 2018 to September 2020, seconded to the Financial Services Agency, where he focused primarily on supporting asset managers and FinTech businesses.

Extensive experience advising on the formation and investment execution of a wide range of fund types — venture capital, private equity, infrastructure, and hedge funds — alongside deep expertise in asset finance, project finance, and real-estate finance. Joined Investment Lab as Auditor in April 2026.
